RIP JB 1933-2006

James Brown, (website) arguably the most influential artist/composer/musician/dynamo of the 20th century went from this mortal coil this morning. (Yahoo story)

For me, another piece of my childhood is gone.

He created transcendent soul, some of the first and best protest music, the heartbeat of all rap, gave birth to funk, was copied by rock stars, created some of the greatest music ever created.

He fined musicians for poor playing, was a wife beater, drug abuser, sold out while creating decent music, and gave great show.

I think it is physically impossible to have one favorite James Brown song.

Here is the power of the godfather from a live performance.

And here is another live concert. Bet you didn't know that he allowed this concert to be broadcast across the night of MLK's assassination to help prevent rioting.

I am truly sad this Christmas day. But this will make me always remember the godfather. RIP JB.

Count it off! Count it off!
